Designing the Future / Future Crafting

Eric Rogers has extensive experience in future crafting through the imaginary and the aspirational, particularly in design charrettes aimed at envisioning the postcapitalist city. Their work encourages participants to imagine and design art and projects that explore cities in a world where individuals no longer have to work to sustain themselves. This involves a radical rethinking of spatial organization, challenging the pervasive nature of work in contemporary cities.

Rogers emphasizes the importance of considering time as a fundamental factor in shaping the city, addressing the paradoxical experiences of "idleness" and being "hyper-busy" in today's urban landscapes. He explores the impact of major disruptions, such as the pandemic, technological advancements, economic crises, and the concept of universal basic income, on the way people perceive and engage with cities.
